About This Wiki

In 2008, the Rapid City Public Library created a DUSEL wiki using Wikispaces that collected news articles, photos, and information pertaining to the experiments that will take place in Homestake Mine. In May of 2009, the wiki was moved to Wikidot where it was remodeled and a forum was added.

Along with several other sites, the DUSEL wiki is part of the Rapid City Public Library's social networking initiative and is a reflection of the Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan has three points:

• Maintain the libraries as community gathering places for all ages.
• Continue to develop intuitive, mobile and user-friendly library services for all ages.
• Increase public awareness of existing and evolving services.

The social networking intiative is another way for the Rapid City Library to inform the public of library resources, services, and events and develop "virtual gathering places."

Flood Wiki

The Flood Wiki: The Rapid City Flood of 1972 was one of the deadliest floods in U.S. history. More than 200 people lost their lives in a period of hours on the night of June 9-10, 1972. Many people have recorded their memories of that night and the Rapid City Public Library's Flood Wiki serves as a digital archive of those memories.

LibraryThing

Library Thing: This cataloging utility lets users (and visitors) look at reviews and ratings for books in the Rapid City Public Library's collection. Of course, we have more than is listed here, but if you're looking for the next title for your book club, it's the perfect spot to get the scoop.

Podcasts: Podcasting has rapidly become the new way to reach listeners around the world. Podcast downloads are similar to music downloads, using speech instead of music. You can access the files on your PC just as you would any other of your file, allowing you to listen to whatever you want, whenever you want. And now, you can listen to Rapid City Library programs or events whenever and wherever you choose.

Twitter: Follow what's going on at the Rapid City Public Library via Twitter. Fridays are "#LibQuestions" days, where staff answer questions the public has "tweeted" in. You can also see updates of the library's various other social media sites, and it's a great place to check for other Black Hills events as well.
